Wargames Factory’s Equal Opportunity Survivors

Well something came in the mail today…

Picked up Wargames Factory’s Dark Future Survivors line, both male and female, during their Black Friday sale. Not that I don’t want to support the LGS, but on Black Fridays they can’t match the pricing…

Anyhow, my intention is to use them as cultists for 40k. 60 cultists plus the traditional GW cultists (around 20~30) should put a sizeable presence on board, and also a slightly different look to the usual GW hooded and scarred cultists. Better IMO to have civilians that looks like a mob of everyday civilians.. just armed to the teeth. And having females in the crowd makes it look even more.. “real”. GW does seem to have this problem about human females not existing outside of very narrow ranges.

Out of box pics for now. First, Female Survivors:

Nice set of bodies, though some mold lines to be cleared up. Weapons on the body sprues are mostly ballistics, pistols, uzis, a few assault rifles like M16s and AKs, but you get some oddities, like a golf club, a tennis racquet, heels — really, a pair of high heels — a compound bow, a shottie, and of course the RPG. Head selections are nice, including a pair of girl’s head, one in a helmet. Cute.

The weapons sprue is different from the male version, with waaay too many assault rifles and a huge selection of shotguns; no shortage of boomsticks there. Bolt action rifles, a pipe bomb, chainsaws and yet more RPGs round out the set.

Then Male Survivors:

Pretty similar to the ladies, the body sprue comes with 10 bodies, a decent selection of heads, and some basic weapons. Uniques are two variants of bats, a crowbar (Gordon Freeman?), SMGs and more Assault Rifles than the ladies. Also, a Molotov Cocktail.. interesting. There’s a Terminator look-alike, with a nice looking trench coat. Yeah I’ll use that. Probably swap the head out and paint a skull on the torso body armour…

Male weapons sprue includes way too many Assault Rifles, including bull pup designs, machetes, grenade launchers, and sundries like shotguns and bolt action rifles. And yeah, 2 bibles… I suppose they count as holy weapons. Yes, it does say “The Bible” on them. You betcha I’m going to use them.

Overall, both looks good, and the arms look fairly interchangeable between the two. Would be good to have a trench coat squad with some serious heat.. As cultist they’ll work ok; I have a “flame thrower” aka Molotov cocktail tosser. 🙂 I don’t have a heavy stubber, but I do have plenty of MG42s around IIRC… heh. Shouldn’t be too difficult to work a MG42 into one of the arms. Also, probably won’t hurt too badly to mix in a few “militia” spotting ballistic weapons either, no?

Cultist leader isn’t going to have a problem finding a shotgun with this set.. Overall, since Cultists are there as cannon fodder most of the time, I’m likely to put them together with pistols and SMGs rather than shotguns/ assault rifles — ARs cost more, so probably not, except maybe for an “elite” cultist squad. Still, tempting to kit out the RPGs for a real dose of “civil disobedience”… man, wish there are plastic Arbites right now. Hmm I do have those Void Junkers somewhere….

Overall this looks to be a good buy, just need to put them together. The bases are clearly not GW in terms of the angle of their bevel, but they seem to work out ok for these minis.
