Mechwarrior Online March Outlook

Well, the March Creative Director Update is out.

Big item appears to be the State Rewind update, which is kind of a lag compensation technique. I do expect for Asian and Oceanic players who regularly experiences ping above 250 to now do better… But if you were a poor shot previously this ain’t gonna help. They are tackling only some weapons and it goes in tonight, usually 2am local, so effects won’t be seen till tomorrow.

New significant content seems to be a new big map, new consumables and the new offline Testing Grounds. Desert, the new big map, is welcomed; random rotation of big maps with small maps forces players to build more balanced mech loadouts, which is welcomed. A bigger percentage of big maps will drive that further. However, it also depends on the map design, as Alpine has sort of degenerated into a mid-long peeking match around that big mountain and the plateau around it.

Consumables, I have mixed reactions. On one hand, a rolling air and artillery strike would resolve the aforementioned Alpine Peekaboo. On the other, a lot depends on the cost of consumables.

The Testing Grounds is welcomed if nothing else for the ability to take the mech out for a walk. There are still corners in the maps I haven’t explored, simply because I’m busy dodging rockets.

Other stuff.. UI improvements have to wait and see; personally i think it looks cluttered. Joystick improvements are welcomed as I recently got an Xbox controller for the PC, might work out better. More user stats is ok I guess, but I rather not make them public as this often give rise to e-peen contests. Community Design A Trial Mech… Eh ok

Lastly, the new mechs. Jagermech on the 19th, sort of looking forward to a XL-engine twin AC20 build… Sort of. Hero Cicada, you sort of have to be in a hero to be in a Cicada already, this one just pays better. Rumours is up to 4 E slots and 2 M slots, and no ECM. Should be interesting to see how well it do with lasers and streaks, as compared to the Raven-L.
