BAM, Dust and Tamiya

Well now, getting back into minis…

One of the systems I’m watching with interest is actually Bolt Action, or Bolt Action Miniatures (BAM), which was acquired by Warlord Games a few years ago. The system looks decent, but there’s always the miniature problem. 28mm gaming isn’t exactly a definitive scale but it’s so close to 1/48 that it’s tantalizing. And Tamiya does produce some very nice 1/48 models…

Just some new toys..

Was in ArtFriend a few days ago when I picked this up:

It’s actually meant to cut wood, but works for plastic. It’s nice that it already has the angles marked out — a time saving thing. How well does it cut? Quite cleanly:

Nice clean sheer, a bit of stressing, but I think within reasonable limits. Can skip breaking out the mitre and saw for simple jobs now I think.

In other new stuff, picked up some 25mm Uruk-Hais at the LGS as they were clearing.

Always been a sucker for pikes.

They are actually fairly nice, but the injection molding tech is old and in areas the minis are fairly crude. These aren’t meant to be centerpieces but more massed rank and file. The above is just one sprue, yeah 10 minis on one GW sprue.. Those days are long gone now. Still have 3 more of those to do, so it should look rather impressive ranked up. Just doing these to get back into the swing of things, and I’m not intending to do that great a job at it… Simple, quick, good enough for these.

MWO: SG/ MY 16-Mech Sync-Drop Madness

So we were just minding our own business, shooting things up, when we got an invite to do random 16-Mech sync drop madness. So we went along…

First game was on Forest Colony, and I forgot to turn the video capture on. Predictably, it’s one that we did pretty good on.

Ada, Eisenkern Sniper

So I finally got around to putting her together.

I left off her backpack and shoulder pads as I was going for more of a light infantry look. She’s not too bad to put together, parts are generally well keyed and not too difficult to figure out.

Pose is a bit static but she is a one-off special character. Mold lines are light, but IMO unfortunately placed at visible local. Organic parts looks a bit soft but otherwise ok.

Going to play around with her and some of the other mins a bit more.

Oh, just for laughs:

Tyrannid Warrior is rather large…

MWO: New Personal Best!

MWOClient_2013_05_08_03_58_27_015MWOClient_2013_05_08_03_58_38_158

Frozen fight in a fast Dragon build. Started on the north side. Went through the tunnel with a Jagermech, then split off and run circles. Engaged mulriples with hit-and-runs as the rest of my team brawled; helped kill an enemy Jager, then harassed two Dragons.. these two kills I worked for.

After that, another Jagermech that was coming to help, managed to flank and got around him. He was a bit beat up. Then a damaged Highlander with a torn off leg; I killed the other leg, I think mid-jump too. Then a beat-up Centurion with lasers, having shot off my autocannon ammo already.

60 tons have limits. After this, pretty clean Stalker, which I just don’t have the armour or weapons to take on. Personal best, from an exhausting match.

That’s what I got her for.

So a while ago I got into the Bombshell Babes Kickstarter. After a bit, they delivered. Not quite bombshell in the traditional (and sexist) way, but very nice miniatures nonetheless.

I got these specifically for one reason:

Yup, the two air-related models are going to be my crew for the Avenger. Fitting since the Avenger is intended for my Sororitas army. They are a bit smaller than usual 28mm Heroic, but still good and the details are crisp.

The free Maelee makes for a good ground chief, with an oversized wrench to keep things going with percussive maintenance. 😉

Avenger looks good even incomplete and unarmed… Can’t wait to put it together.

MWO: SG/ MY Combined 16-Mech Drop, Match 3

Match 3, the first Tourmaline run. Youtube actually truncated this 12+ min into a 10+ min show, but it’s good because the back end wasn’t really relevant (though you can still hear the audio..).

A bit of a wait as the other team was trying to be sneaky. Jump to 4:27 or so when the action starts to heat up. Quite a scrappy fight, close in and nasty. Devs provide us with a big map and we scrap in a small patch…

As usual, annotations for thoughts and captions for laughs.
