Army to Go!

One of the ever increasing problems that I face in my hobby is that while I can assemble and paint well enough, transporting and storing painted minis is a major issue. I simply have insufficient storage that is suited to the job.

Enter the… Box.

Been working on the components for the last two weeks, kind of slow going. The biggest headache is how to cramp everything I want in there, in a transport-safe manner. Turns out to be a jigsaw puzzle.

So what is in there?

Oh just a 1000 points Bolt Action British platoon. Complete with tank and Universal Carrier. Which is hidden beneath…

There you go. Lots of magnets. The trays are GW LOTR company bases, which are great for holding 25mm based minis. I magnetized them and had flexible bases cut for the minis — I later found my LGS sells 25mm steel plates that I could have bought. Ah well….

The Universal Carrier is modified to have a magnets underneath to stick to the base, and although I intended to do so with the Sherman Firefly, it’s quite clear that I have to do quite a big magnet job in order to ensure it stays in place. Instead I went with boxing the Sherman in, which makes it a lot easier.

Incidentally those plastic cards are 1mm thick. In scale, they are thicker that a Sherman’s side armour. Sheesh. I hate working at that thickness, but I do need the rigidity it affords here. Also, turns out my plastic supplies are great for doing small detail work, but structure? Sucks big time. Maybe time to go stock up…

So yeah, now I have a platoon in a box. That gives me a transport that is light and tight, which means I can now move on to painting this platoon up. 😉
