Kickstarter Roundup: Week of 14 Oct 2013

These few weeks I’ve been quite busy and hadn’t been able to post that much. Not happy. Still, Kickstarters. 😀

We start off this week’s roundup by saying there’s a lot of interesting KS out there this week. Beats me why. But, shortlisted to the following five. And up first, we have an odd one.

And we have Darklands. First off — there’s almost no time left on this KS, it slipped through somehow. Second — damnit, it’s rather confusing as KS goes. But, hey, concept art looks good, it’s already funded, and they do look like they know what they are doing…

I’m not sure I’d back it though. Locally Fantasy games are really not hot, so I’ll just be having stuff sitting on shelves. And the other thing is that this is really expensive, with their game’s basic entry level army at 80 pounds. Before shipping. It looks good and hey, Imperial Roman lookalikes usually hits a soft spot. But… YMMV.

Kickstarter Roundup: Week of 07 Oct 2013

Well some weeks you get very few interesting Kickstarters, others you get a good lot.

First up, this little gem. I quite like the concept of “alternative” fairy tale characters.. guess I just like looking at the other side of the coin.

Concept art looks good and their renders look interesting. I’m especially fond of Steampunk Belle and the Twiddle Sisters, and the Jabberwock looks to be some 40k Chaos Dragon or Spawn… heh idea there.

Hmm would be interesting if they gender-flip Dracula. Or not. 🙂

What I don’t like is the high International shipping (which is USPS’ problem) and the restrictive pledges for international folks. I’m still on the fence, and with Belle and Twiddle’s renders as sight unseen, I’m not 100% sold on this Kickstarter. Going to wait to see what other unlocks there be, before I decide.

Kickstarter Roundup: Week of 30 Sep 2013

As it turns out, the week turned out to be kind of hectic, but the delay did let me include a couple of interesting Kickstarters…

The Bones be Back

Reapers Bones II kickstarter is now back. I didn’t take part in the first one, but it was big. Is this one going to be big? Not going to even dignify that with a response. It’s already over 1 million in funding, and that’s just a couple of days in.

But I’m not likely to take up. The stuff are mostly fantasy, and are diverse enough that it’s mostly useful for RPG, or for its own sake. There’s only really one that I’m interested in. So.. pass. 🙂

Kickstarter Roundup: Week of 23 Sep 2013

Thinking about doing a semi-regular series, since I poke my head in once in a while. Usually in the Games/ Tabletop section, but I get around. Generally I look for things that are interesting to me, so the following is really just my opinions.

So this week..

I like the concept, but it’s a little too close to MaK for comfort. The number of minis per box seems good, but it’s a small company, might have issues. I’d watch it, but.. after nearly 20 years in the hobby, I don’t really need more stuff.

Ada, Eisenkern Sniper

So I finally got around to putting her together.

I left off her backpack and shoulder pads as I was going for more of a light infantry look. She’s not too bad to put together, parts are generally well keyed and not too difficult to figure out.

Pose is a bit static but she is a one-off special character. Mold lines are light, but IMO unfortunately placed at visible local. Organic parts looks a bit soft but otherwise ok.

Going to play around with her and some of the other mins a bit more.

Oh, just for laughs:

Tyrannid Warrior is rather large…

That’s what I got her for.

So a while ago I got into the Bombshell Babes Kickstarter. After a bit, they delivered. Not quite bombshell in the traditional (and sexist) way, but very nice miniatures nonetheless.

I got these specifically for one reason:

Yup, the two air-related models are going to be my crew for the Avenger. Fitting since the Avenger is intended for my Sororitas army. They are a bit smaller than usual 28mm Heroic, but still good and the details are crisp.

The free Maelee makes for a good ground chief, with an oversized wrench to keep things going with percussive maintenance. 😉

Avenger looks good even incomplete and unarmed… Can’t wait to put it together.

Yet another Kickstarter…

So I’m stuck with this one:

Over the years, I’ve taken a fairly dim view of the things Harmony Gold has done (or not done) with the Macross license. Part of that extends to Palladium Books, which is pushing this particular Kickstarter along with their partners, Ninja Division (IIRC). Unfortunately, in the near future these look to be the only real source of Macross mecha. So I’m sort of stuck supporting them. Bleh.

The Lack of Updates has ended! Well…

I’m still alive. Mostly, I think.

Mechwarrior Online is really sucking my life up. Not a good sign I presume… Still, like a friend would say, pew pew is fun. 🙂

o2 April will have a patch, to remove the sales and 2XP weekend effect, but the lack of patch information thus far is a bit worrisome. Hopefully, the missiles rework is done and the LRMs and SRMs can go back to being a wee bit more useful.

Also looking forward to seeing the April Creative Director’s update. Should be due today or tomorrow.

Kickstarter: Eisenkern Stormtroopers

Well look what came in the mail the other day…
20130221-143123.jpg
I took part in Dreamforge‘s second Kickstarter for their Leviathans.. well it was for their Leviathans, but I think the Eisenkern models got more of the attention. And no, I didn’t just get these, in fact I consolidated a number of sprues into these two boxes so that I bring them around and do the photoshoot when it’s convenient for me. I got two more support weapons set plus Wave III coming.

At any rate, this is a box opening review, I hadn’t the opportunity to put any Eisenkern together yet so I can only make limited comments on the assembly aspect. But off the cuff, it’s quite an impressive set. I’ll also be very honest here. I got these to use as renegade Imperial Guard in 40k. So, I’m not as yet interested in the game system that is to come out, but I can always make some provisions for them. Still, the main focus is to organize the miniatures according to GW ruleset.

Moving on…
